Meet Fabian Moreno, a software architect based in Colombia who’s been with Modularis for almost six years.
Fabian is wise beyond his years; he has a very unique and powerful combination of experience, emotional intelligence and humbleness that you almost never find in a software architect. He’s got a calming nature and handles stress and levels of complexity in a positive way that’s quite rare. His teammates know they can rely on him, and he’s in high demand by customers—everyone holds him in high regard.

What is your role at Modularis?
I am a software architect at Modularis. I support the Modularis team, as well as our customers, to address their architecture challenges. I also execute different services provided as part of PlatformPlus®. I am actively involved in improving our platform and developing high-level automation for some of our important projects.
I have been at Modularis for almost six years; November 1st is my six-year anniversary.
What does delivering value for your customers mean to you?
We provide our customers with the tools, services, and infrastructure to help them achieve their goals and address their technology challenges. We build fast, build right, and build to last! We provide guidance and support to our customers – this is a powerful platform and we want to remove any roadblocks to make things more efficient. Finally, we want to make our customers happy; we want them to be satisfied with our platform and our leadership team and know they are in the right place, achieving their goals with high profitability.
What did you do before you joined Modularis?
I worked at software and non-software companies. Most recently, before Modularis, I provided development services and support through a local software company. While the projects were interesting, I was looking for a higher-level challenge to help develop my potential.
How did you hear about Modularis?
I heard about Modularis from one of my closest friends, who also happens to be a Modularis employee. He mentioned that Modularis would allow me to continuously develop my professional skills as a software architect. Then I spoke with Jaime and that conversation created the motivation to work here.
What made you decide to take the job at Modularis?
So many things! Modularis represented many challenges to me, including the opportunity to improve my English language skills outside of the classroom. Working with a company that built and owns a platform was significant for me in terms of how much I could learn and expand my knowledge. The number of products and services I would get to work with as a software architect at Modularis was also very attractive to me. I was excited to work with such brilliant people who would help me grow and learn new things. Having the chance to work remotely was also important to me as it allows me to spend more time with my family.
Finally, speaking with A.J. and Jaime convinced me I was making the right decision and motivated me to take the job. They mentioned how we could share ideas as a team and learn from each other; which is incredible, to be listened to by leadership. I am comfortable knowing that I can bring my ideas to the table without fear of criticism. We are more like a family than coworkers. Almost six years later, I can say yes, this was the right decision for me!
Where did you go to school and what did you study?
Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia. I studied systems technology and then went on to systems engineering.
What motivated you to follow a career in systems engineering?
When I began my education, I debated between electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, and systems engineering. I was motivated to follow systems engineering because we were living in the technology boom and it was a career of the future. Systems engineering impacts every aspect of our lives; technology is essential and it brings value to all areas. My work provides me with the capacity to generate solutions for different needs, not just for software companies, but in all markets.
What is your favorite project you have worked on at Modularis?
I enjoy the projects we work on internally, enhancing and improving our platform. I know it makes a difference because PlatformPlus® is a core service for Modularis and contains many different things we provide to the customer. One project that stands out for me was working on the migration of our platform allowing us to deploy services in different environments – MS, Linux, Mac. I had the chance to improve automation for different customers, which improved their efficiency.
He lives all of our company values, but he’s off the charts in ‘take ownership,’ in every engagement he works on. I trust him with the future of our technology platform. Tell us about your life outside of work. Family life? Hobbies?
I enjoy spending time with my wife and two kids. Before the pandemic, we loved to go to the movies. Now we enjoy time together at home; watching movies, eating meals, trying new things, and playing with the kids. I also enjoy reading about different topics that will expand my knowledge. I love to play video games, and I have played soccer since I was a kid.
What are your personal values and how do they help you in your work at Modularis?
I value commitment and responsibility. I like to finish what I start, and I want it to be done right; I want it to be the best. I put my family first. Family is important not only at home but also with the team; I love working with each of my colleagues at Modularis and I am here to share my knowledge and help them grow. I am a helper. I put others first. I like to help the team even if I’m struggling with something else.
